The highest quality commercial standards available, YSI solutions are traceable to the National Institute for Standards and Technology (NIST). Using solutions that are traced back to NIST standards means that quality control and quality assurance while calibrating conductivity are more easily documented. To assure quality, YSI inspects all conductivity standards with reference to primary standard solutions according to Organisation International de Metrologie Legale (OIML) International Recommendation No. 56. YSI also uses NIST Standard Reference Material KCI, tested distilled water, volumetric and gravimetric standards traceable to the NIST, and NIST aqueous electrolytic conductance reference materials.
Solutions are available in nominal values of 1,000, 10,000, 50,000 and 100,000 µS/cm at 25°C. Bottles are packaged with a table of corrections at temperatures between 20°C and 30°C. At 25°C the YSI 3161 solution has a tolerance of ±0.50%, the YSI 3163 and 3165 ±0.25%, and the YSI 3167-3169 ±1.0%.
